UGC NET Online Application,Examination Fee and Mode of Payment Details

University Grants Commission (UGC) will hold on 30th December 2012 (Sunday), the National Eligibility Test (NET) for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for Lectureship only or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Lectureship both, in Indian Universities and Colleges, in 78 subjects, at 77 selected NET Coordinating Universities spread across the country.

NET will be conducted in seventy eight subjects at 77 centers across the country. The last date for applying online is 16 November 2012 and for submitting copy of online application along with documents is 22 November 2012.

The List of Coordinating Universities is available at http://www.ugcnetonline.in/. Printout of Online Application Form should be addressed to the Registrar/Principal of the respective Coordinating Universities/Colleges. 

Those who have appeared or will be appearing at the qualifying Master’s Degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited or those whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply. However, such candidates will be considered eligible for award of JRF/Eligibility for Lectureship, only after they pass their Master’s Degree examination or equivalent with prescribed marks within two years from the date of NET result. 

Examination Fee and Mode of Payment: Examination fee is Rs. 450/- for General candidates, Rs. 225/- for OBC (NCL), and Rs. 110/- for SC/ST/PWD applicants. Applicant should remit fee using the Bank Challan Form (Bank Copy, UGC Copy & Candidate’s Copy) that can be downloaded from http://www.ugcnetonline.in/bank_challan.pdf. All three copies of Challan Form should be submitted at a branch of SBI along with the fee and bank charges (commission) of Rs. 20/-. The bank will retain its copy and return the other two copies of challan to the applicant.

Scheme and Date of Test: The Test will consist of three papers all with objective type questions. It will be held on 30th December, 2012 (Sunday) in two separate sessions. There will be two papers in the first session, each of 75 minutes and each carrying 100 marks.
 In Paper I to be held from 9.30 am to 10.45 am, there will be 60 questions of which 50 will have to be answered.
For Paper II, to be held from 10.45 am to 12 noon, there will be 50 questions all of which are to be answered. The second session will have one paper,

Paper III to be held from 1.30 pm to 4 pm having 75 questions all of which have to be answered and will carry 150 marks. Each question in carries 2 marks in all papers. There will be no negative marking.

Candidates are allowed to carry the Test Booklets of all Papers and duplicate copy (carbon less copy) of OMR Sheet after the examination. The detailed instructions for filling up the OMR Sheet will be uploaded on UGC website (www.ugcnetonline.in or www.ugc.ac.in ) in the last week of November, 2012. It will not be sent to the candidate by post.

Minimum Marks: The minimum marks (percentage) to be obtained in Paper I, II and III for various categories are as follows.


The final qualifying criteria for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Eligibility for Lectureship both and Eligibility for Lectureship only shall be decided by UGC before declaration of result.

Application: Application can be submitted only online, at www.ugcnetonline.in  or through a link available at www.ugc.ac.in, latest by 16th November, 2012. 

Before applying Online, applicant should possess a scanned passport (pp) size photograph in JPEG format of less than 300 kb and Copy of Bank Challan obtained after remitting the fee.
