Silk City Berhampur got approved 94 crore Rupees for the year of 2012-12

The Berhampur Municipal Corporation has approved a budget of Rs 94.99 crore for the 2012-13 financial years.
The council meeting was chaired by Mayor Mr. Siba Sankar Das and Commissioner Mr. Akshya Mohanty.
The officials stressed achievement of targets in time for various development projects to be undertaken in the city. They also recommended;

• Development of sanitation system in the city,
• Construction of parking and vending zones,
• Night shelters and mosquito control,
• Renovation of various water bodies and
• Beautification drive in the city will also be taken up.

It is noteworthy that Berhampur is one of the oldest cities of Eastern India and the third largest city in the State of Orissa. It is the first Municipality of Odisha. The city was declared as a Municipality in the year 1867 by the Colonial administration. It was declared as a Municipal Corporation or Class-I city in the year 2008
